Durgapersad Ramjattan “Bap” “Tickle”

3/6/1926 ~ 12/5/2020

A great family legend by the name of Durgapersad Ramjattan (known as Bap or Tickle), born on March 6, 1926 in Trinindad & Tobago passed away peacefully on December 5, 2020 in Gonzales, Louisiana. Bap was a loving husband, dedicated father, and amazing grandfather, great grandfather, and great- great grandfather. From a very early age, Bap worked very hard to raise all eleven of his children starting off earning only $ an hour working his way up to $ an hour while in Trinidad. After many years, Bap migrated his children to the United States while he continued to build up his citrus and cocoa beans business in Trinidad in effort to continue providing for his family. After joining his children in the U.S. many years later, Bap enjoyed activities such as hunting, fishing, and celebrating family festivities with his numerous children, grand & great-grandchildren. One of Bap’s favorite past-times was to tell stories of his life in Trinidad, something that every single one of us always enjoyed and will certainly never forget! Bap is preceded in death by his wife, Irene, first born son Ramdath “Nez” Durgapersad, his baby daughter Margaret Durgapersad Seepaul, his grandson Rajesh “Lito” Durgapersad, and his sons in law Bill Straw & Dhanraj “Bato” Gunness. Bap is survived by nine children, five daughters-in-law, and three sons-in-law: Lou & Dolly Persad, Dave & Merle Persad, Sham “Bo” & Sandra Durgapersad, Kamal & Dulsie Durgapersad, Shantie & King Sinanan, Maltie & Roy Seeraj, Sylvia & Khalid Saleh, Helen Straw, Betty Gunness and Rukmin Nandlal Durgapersad.
