Lynda Joy Hammond Mayhall
September 19, 1942 – December 19, 2020
~In mansions of glory and endless delight; I will ever adore Thee in Heaven so bright! I will sing with a glittering crown on my brow. If ever I love Thee; my Jesus tis now!~ It is with great sadness that our family declares our rock, our mother and the Queen of our hearts, Lynda Joy Hammond Mayhall, left this earth on December 19, 2020. She passed surrounded by her husband and children in her home. It is with abundant joy that we declare after bravely battling cancer for several years Lynda has returned home to be with her Lord. Lynda Joy Hammond came into this world on September 19, 1942. She was born to Ammon Hammond and Vera (Pierce) Hammond. Her siblings included Mary Hammon Starkey, Dale Hammond Buras, Doris Hammond, William (Buddy) Hammond and Gracie Hammond Smith. Lynda is survived by the love her life, Cecil Wayne Mayhall Sr. whom she was married to for 61 years. Wayne
lovingly took care of Lynda through those years and never left her side during her illness. Together they had seven children Sheryl Mayhall, Pamela Mayhall Chesne (Charles), Cecil “Wayne” Mayhall Jr. (Laura), Cynthia Mayhall Hutchinson (Tim), Kimberly Mayhall, Dawn Mayhall and Timothy Mayhall (Tamara). They shared 23 grandchildren including Ashton Hebert, Sarah Hebert, Meghan Hebert, Emily Mayhall Hicks (Harper), Isaiah Mayhall, Clara Mayhall, Solomon Mayhall, Soren Mayhall, Christian Mayhall, Dru Hutchinson, Mason Hutchinson, Abigail Hutchinson, Joseph Fontenot (Maril), Ben Fontenot, Christian Fontenot, Ryder Fontenot, Tyler Aiken (Clair), Lyndsey Aiken Griffith (Caleb), Allie Aiken, Lucien Verdun, Grace Verdun, Thomas Mayhall and Foster Mayhall. They also shared 6 great-grandchildren Jack Daigle, Lily Daigle, Gage Trayah, Kingston Smith, Willow Bardsley, Anderson Hicks and a 7th
coming soon. Their family also included three “honarary” children Tara Torres Bott, Darrell Torres and Niki Torres. Lynda was a remarkable woman! She loved fiercely and without condition. She always welcomed family and friends into her home which she rejoiced in being filled with love, laughter and lots of food! If you entered the door of Lynda’s home she was going to make sure you left with a full heart and stomach. Her love for music, poetry and crafts were gifted to anyone who would receive. She was a master seamstress and could whip up a “Lynda Original” creation quicker than you could say Hancock’s Fabric Store. She enjoyed ceramics and loved including that craft in the Sunday School classes and Vacation Bible School Classes she taught over the years. After being a stay at home mom until her children had left the house; Lynda decided she wanted to continue to take care of others
by becoming a nurse. At the age of 50, Lynda studied tirelessly to obtain her GED and attend nursing school where she earned top grades in her graduating class. During her career she took care of her patients with tremendous skill and compassion until she retired to be with her husband and enjoy being at home with her family. Lynda will always be remembered for the phrase heard by those she loved everytime they were in her presence “I love you to infinity and beyond!”. She loved as she lived beautifully and completely. Our lives are forever blessed to have called her ours! We will do our best to carry her legacy of love in her hearts and lives to honor her until we are all together again. Lynda was proceeded in death by her beloved granddaughter Sarah Hebert, her nieces Barbara Starkey Torres, Mary Guidry and many other beloved family members and friends. Our family is forever
grateful for all the messages of love and condolences sent to us by family and friends in the days since her passing. We love reading your memories of her and how she touched your life. Due to the present circumstances beyond our control and restraints of coming together during this pandemic, our family has chosen to honor our Queen with private services for immediate family members only with burial following at Mary Springs Church of God of Prophecy graveyard in Gloster, Mississippi on Sunday, December 27, 2020. We would be blessed if you would leave any memories of thoughts of Lynda below so that we can know what she meant to others. We miss her so incredibly much and all await the day of our reunion in the infinity of the Heavens. To infinity and beyond Lynda Joy Hammond Mayhall you are loved! ♥️
