February 27, 1939 ~ February 13, 2021
Roy Charles Barton, age 81, of Denham Springs, LA, unexpectantly passed at his residence in the arms of his loving wife on Saturday February 13, 2021, from complications following surgery. We are comforted to know he was welcomed into his Saviors arms as he was a faithful Christian and a member of Northside Baptist Church for over 50 years. Roy was born on February 27, 1939 to Annie Wilma and Aubrey Barton in Calhoun City, MS. He was a graduate of Calhoun City High School and moved his family to Denham Springs in 1967. A painter by trade, Roy opened his own business, Barton Paint Contracting in 1979, where he worked until he retired in 2011. He was instrumental in getting the first Farrell Calhoun Paint stores operating in the state of Louisiana. He also created a signature paint known to many as “Barton White”. Even though he retired, there were many days you could still find him sitting on a stool and drinking coffee at the paint store. Roy never met a stranger and loved to tell stories about his wife and girls. To know him was to love him. He loved traveling with his wife and was always ready for the next adventure. In addition to serving his church and family, he was faithful in assisting others in need, including delivering food from the counsel on aging to homebound seniors. During the 2016 flood, he served his community by delivering food to displaced families and opened his home to displaced family and friends. Roy was affectionately known to many as “Papa Smurf” and “Roy Boy”. He will be missed by his family and friends. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Aubrey Barton and Annie Wilma Barton, brothers, Jerry Barton and Billy Barton. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria Taylor Barton, daughters, Pamela B. Savoy (John) of Denham Springs, LA, Paula B. Gillespie (Roger) of Denham Springs, LA, and Penny B. Young (H.F.) of Fairmont, WV, grandchildren, Jacob A. Gillespie (Chelsea), Jared N. Gillespie, Austin F. Young, and Aubrey R. Young, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.Visitation and service will be held at Northside Baptist Church in Denham Springs, February 20, 2021 from 9:00am -11:00am with service to follow. Burial will take place February 25, 2021 at 11:00 am at Oak Springs Cemetery in Derma, MS. For family and friends unable to attend the service will be live streamed via Northside Baptist Church’s Facebook page. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made to Northside Baptist Church Building Fund or The American Heart Association.
