Billy George Sumrall

Billy George Sumrall, 89 of Denham Springs passed away peacefully at his son’s home in Houston, Texas on February 18, 2021. Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, on Thursday, February 25, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at Walker Baptist Church, Friday, February 26, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Walker Baptist Church Cemetery in Walker. Billy was born in Mendenhall, Mississippi on August 8, 1931, but his family moved to Oak Grove, Louisiana in about 1935 where he grew up. He was the oldest of five children of Dorothy Lehr Sumrall and George Knight Sumrall. Billy moved his family to the Baton Rouge area in 1966 having lived the last 50 years in Denham Springs. Billy is of Scottish heritage, with family who are documented veterans of the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Billy was a Korean War veteran who served in the 5th Army, Artillery, discharged in 1954. He was a welder and pipefitter and a retired member of Union Local 198, being a union member for 65 years. Billy was a member of Walker Baptist Church for over 30 years. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janette Holland and brother Benny Lloyd Sumrall. Survivors include his two sons, Rick L. Sumrall and his wife Kela of Houston, Texas, James P. Sumrall and his wife Cathy of Denham Springs, sister Juanita Weeks of Marshall, Texas, sister Mary Alice Sumrall of  Lodi, California, brother Fred Sumrall of Forest Hill, California, aunt and uncle Maxine and Bobby Jones of Baton Rouge, and the great joys of his life, his grandchildren, Holland Elizabeth Sumrall, Justin Sumrall, Zachary Sumrall and Ian Sumrall. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many friends.
