Purvis Kemp “Blue Boy” Wheat

Purvis Kemp “Blue Boy” Wheat returned to his heavenly home on July 9, 2021, at the age of 83. He was devoted to his famiy and had a firm belief in God.

Blue Boy was born to the late Eugene and Ethel Taylor Wheat in Colyell, Louisiana on September 9, 1937. He was a United States Army Veteran and a life long member of Colyell Baptist Church.

Blue Boy was blessed with a loving family. He married his soul mate, Nelda Faye Martin Wheat on June 3, 1960. Blue Boy is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, son Purvis and his wife, Cynthia Watts Wheat, son Barry and his wife, Evelyn Watts Wheat, and daughter Nancy Wheat Landry and her husband Jamie Landry. Blue Boy has 4 grandchildren, Jacob and his wife Megan Eddleman, Lacey Nicole Wheat, Dakotah and his wife Jessica Eddleman, and Paiton and her husband Wayne Hopkins. He also has 4 great-grandsons, Parker, Corbin, Carter, and August. He is also survived by sisters Dorothy “Dottie” Methvien and her husband Robert Methvien, and Helen Edwards, and sister-in-law Georgia Heidel.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Ethel Taylor Wheat, Sisters, Gloria Wheat Sullivan, Julia “Sad” Wheat and Hazel Wheat Watts; brother Johnny Harvey “Snake” Wheat, brothers-in-law, Gary Edwards, and Muriel Watts.

Services will be held at Colyell Baptist Church. Viewing will be on Monday, July 12, 2021 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, July 13, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with services to immediately follow.
