Charles E. “Chuck” “Mudcat” Shaeffer, SR

June 13, 1946 – August 28, 2021

 

Charles E. “Chuck” “Mudcat” Shaeffer, Sr. passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021 in Baton Rouge at the age of 75 as a result of pulmonary failure due to complications from COVID after being vaccinated. He was a resident of Denham Springs and a native of Mena, Arkansas. He was a retired electrical supervisor and inspector with Exxon/Mobile for 30 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War serving from 1966 – 1970 and was aboard USS John Paul Jones (DDG-32) and Guided Missel Destroyer Squadron 13 (Black Cat). He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Service Star and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. He proudly served our country. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, Denham Springs on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 10:00 AM until religious services at 3:00 PM conducted by Dr. Leo Miller and Deacon Scott Jones of First Baptist Church, Denham Springs. Burial will follow at Denham Springs Memorial Park. He is survived by the Love of his Life for 51 years and 8 months, Sheila McMorris Shaeffer; son, Charles E. Shaeffer, Jr. (April); daughters, Angela Shaeffer Singleton (Jeffrey) and Lisa Willis (William); Paw Paw loved his grandchildren, Billy Singleton, Jack Shaeffer, Blake Shaeffer, Dylan Stacy, Kaitlynn Bittner, Landan Bittner, Cadan Bittner and Dustin Willis (Molly); great-granddaughters, Ruby and Aurora Willis; niece, Marilyn McMorris; great-nephew, Kason Conerly; sister-in-law, Wynne McMorris Jordan; his fur babies, Chi Chi and Monica. Preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Shaeffer; mother, Ruth Shinn Wilhite and step-father J.D. Wilhite; mother-in-law, Helen Miley McMorris; father-in-law, Menton and Amelia McMorris; granddaughter, Ashley Willis and brother-in-law, Russell McMorris. Pallbearers will be Chuck Shaeffer, Jr., Danny Mayeaux, Chad Dunlap, Michael Dunlap, David Dunlap, Mark McMorris, Mike McMorris, Jeff McMorris and Sean Loustalot. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Singleton, Jeff Singleton, Claude McMorris, Dustin Willis, Barry Bryan, Robert Corbin and his electrical department friends at Exxon/Mobile. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Denham Springs. He was a member of numerous electrical associations. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge and also a special thanks to John Minton for his excellent care and kindness. Flowers are welcomed, but memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Masks must be worn for the visitation and service.
