Shirley Ann Ganey

January 13, 1935 – September 15, 2021

Shirley Ann Ganey, age 86, passed away September 15, 2021 at the home of her granddaughter, Anna Sutton, in Denham Springs, Louisiana.

She was born January 13, 1935 in Midway, LA to Charles Willie Fred Wade and Odell Maude Wade.
On March 8, 1951 she was married to Odis Ganey, Sr. The joy of her life was their six children and thirteen grandchildren. She spent many years serving others as a care giver. She was known as “Granny” not only by her own grandchildren, but by many of their friends.
She is survived by her son, Odis Ganey, Jr and wife, Debby, of Anchorage, Alaska; her daughter, Ginger Rivers and husband, Clay, of Denham Springs; her son, Chris Ganey and wife, Liz, of St. Francisville; and her daughter, Cherry Ganey of Denham Springs; eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; her sisters, Clara Maxwell of Mississippi and Debbie Ulmer of French Settlement.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Odis Ganey Sr; her brothers, Charles Fred Wade, Richard Wade and Ernest Clark, Jr;  her daughter, Nancy Fitzhugh; her son, James Ralph Ganey; her daughter-in-law, Fonda Langston Ganey; and her grandsons, Wade Austin Ganey and James R. Ganey II.
She was blessed to have long time friendships with Evelyn Burns, Nancy Walker and her prayer partner, Nellie Childers. The family extends a special appreciation to Dr. Arif Qureshi of Ochsner’s for his many years of care and to St. Joseph’s Hospice for their kindness and care.
A graveside service where her remains will be placed to rest beside her husband will be held at 12:30, Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Chalk Hill Cemetery in Little Creek, LA.
