William “Bill” J. Moldthan II

March 22, 1954 – December 17, 2021

William J. Moldthan, II, (Bill), passed away December 17, 2021, at the Hospice of Baton Rouge Butterfly Wing after a courageous batter with cancer at 67 years of age.  Bill was born on March 22, 1954, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to William Joseph Moldthan and June Kassenbrock Moldthan.  He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1972 and spent two years furthering his education at St. Meinard School of Theology.  After a short time in Tennessee, Bill decided to move with the family in 1982 and settled in Baton Rouge.  He worked for several years in retail sales at Dillard’s, Jos. A Banks, and in 2005 started working at Adler’s where he obtained his GIA  (Gemological Institute of America) credentials.  He retired from Adler’s in March of 2020.

Bill had a creative spirit which showed in all he did.  He had a great love for gardening, art, antiques, and traveling.  He was proud of the beautiful flowers and trees he grew in his yard which were quite spectacular.  He visited almost every state including Alaska and Hawaii as well Greece, Italy,  and Ireland.  He always said his favorite trip was the one he was planning next.  His latest interest involved raising finches and tropical fish.   Bill was very devout and participated in the choir at Our Lady of Mercy for over 30 years.

Bill is survived by his partner of 40 years Ken Haydell; four siblings, Suzanne (Richard), Dennis (Ann), Timothy (Claire) and David (Stacey), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on January 4, 2021, from 9-10 am with a mass at 10:00.  Committal at the Garden of Peace Columbarium will follow. The services will be streamed at .  You may view and sign the guestbook at .
