Raymond Earl “Poppa Smurf” Everett
November 21, 1949 – January 29, 2022
A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend went to his eternal home on Saturday January 29, 2022, surrounded by his family at 2pm. He was 72 years old, a resident of Prairieville and native of Watson. He graduated from Live Oak High School and served in the U.S. Army for six years. Ray was known as the Chef of Tailgating, Krewe of Ragoo. He was an Admiral, Commander and active member of the Gonzales/Maurepas Boat Club for 25 years. Ray was also an avid sportsman who loved to watch the LSU Tigers play and go bowling. He was the former President of the Capital Mixed Bowling League, and was currently the Secretary of the bowling league. He retired from Entergy/Gulf States after 30 years of service, then went to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield for 8 years. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his loving wife and caregiver of 40 years, Wanzie J. Everett; three sons, Eric Everett, Chad Everett, Adrian Lee Everett Sr. and wife Tammy; two daughters, Brandi Melton and husband Troy, Debbie Gill; two brothers, Jimmy Everett, Jerry Everett; nineteen grandchildren, Adrian Jr. and wife Alexis, Ann, Logan, Christopher, Amber, Landon, Brooke, Kaylea, Tyler, Chase, Devin, Zachary, Landon, Brady, Angelina, Alena, Laylah, Justin, Jason; twenty great grandchildren, Bentley B., Braxton, Isabella, Skyler, Kayden, Waverly, Kaylee, Braxton, Madeline, Ember, Kadance, Baylan, Koda, Kasen, Xander, Lucas, Mason, Bentley D., Trinity, Dean; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family requests that you dress casual or wear LSU purple and gold. Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home, on Saturday February 5, 2022 from 10 am until Celebration of Life Service at 2pm, conducted by Rev. Ray Varnado and Rev. Rocky Everett. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin B. Everett and Ophelia Rhodus; brother, Alvin Everett; sister, Helen Lavergne; three sister-in-law, Margie Everett, Bobbie Everett and Lare Everett; son-in-law, Dennis Gill. Condolences may be offered at
