April 8, 1979 ~ March 7, 2022
It is with sadness and a broken heart that I sit here; never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I would be writing this obituary for my son.
Josh was one of a kind, if you ever met him, you would never forget him! You would instantly fall in love with him. By no means was he perfect, but he was perfect for me! God knew this when he brought Josh into my world and became part me on April 8, 1979.
Josh was many things to many people, loyal, kind, funny, supportive and if you ever needed him, he had your back 100% no matter what the consequences.
I sit here trying to figure out who his pallbearers were going to be. I kept adding names and adding names, finally I came to the conclusion I can’t list everyone: because all of you were considered his Best Friends. He genuinely loved everyone!
Love Mom, your “REAL” best friend
Josh was born on April 8, 1979, age of forty-two. He was born in Jackson, MS to Sadie K. Chutz and Brian K. Tharpe. When he was four months old, they moved to Denham Springs where he would spend his remaining days.
He attended Denham Springs High School and later went on to Mississippi Delta on a basketball scholarship. When he left college, he joined the U.S. Army and served two years.
Josh accomplished many achievements in his life, but his greatest achievement was being the best son, brother, uncle and friend anyone could ask for.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather: Sadie King Chutz and Clay Chutz, his brothers Billy Tharpe and wife Jenifer, and Chris Tharpe and fiancé Kristina Schubert, nieces; Taylor, Tori, Tinsley, Gracie, Haylee and Presly Tharpe; sister Corley Chutz and fiancé Tanner McDaniel and uncle/ grandfather, retired U.S. Army Colonel Loring Tharpe.
He was preceded in death by his father Brian K. Tharpe, maternal grandparents Frank and Grace King and paternal grandparents Percy and Judy Huggins.
Visitation will be held at Live Oak United Methodist Church on Thursday, March 10, 2022 beginning at 5:00pm. Dr. Mark Crosby will conduct funeral services at 8:00pm. A graveside service will be held at Beech Ridge Cemetery on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 11:00am. Pallbearers will be; Nick Harris, Dante Landry, Tony Jarreau, Mike Dougay, Ryan “Daddy” Scott Richards, Jared Bencaz, Cliff Almand, Blake Sequin, Brennon Vinet, Clem Sasso, James Horne, David Chambers, and Sage Brignac.
“Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Ms Sadie, Billy and Chris, this Lady Red , I’m so sorry to hear this. Bron called me on today and asked me if I had heard from you all and I asked him why and he told me. You all have our deepest and sincere condolences. Josh, Billy and Chris were like brothers to Bron and Frog. They were ideal kids, he will truly be missed. I can vividly remember our last conversation that we had. RIP Josh😇.

Josh, what an amazing human being.
A one of a kind, genuine, 100% true person, no matter the time, place, the people present or what not.
He was cut from a different cloth, one that isn’t made any longer and is rare to find.
“You will truly be missed and thought of often. Rest easy my friend till we meet again. I sure am gonna miss those random phone calls and at the most perfect of times at that!”
“Much Love To You.”

I can’t think of any other person that was as genuine, funny and had as much excitement for life as Josh. From the first time I met him working at A&F, to the last time I saw him at the airport in New Orleans Josh would always greet me with a big brotherly hug. I can’t say enough good things about such an incredible individual. I’ll miss our random meet ups and know he’s watching down upon us all with a big smile.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

This is a hard one to wrap my head around. Josh…. you were loved and cared for by so many people. From Louisiana to Florida, and many other places, you brightened up the room as you walked in. Your upbeat and positive personality was one of a kind, by far. We had some fun times that I’ll never forget. Mrs. Sadie, Chris and Billy, my prayers are with each of you always. Relax in Gods arms Josh! 🙏🏼 💙💙

It’s no doubt you had an impact on people’s lives. Having an older sister your age and having friends with older brothers that you hung out with me and my friends would always hear about the wild and fun times you, Sage, Joe, Jenks, Wayne, Mike, David, Bucket and the rest of the group would have and would mimic it with our lives and yall always had beautiful women for friends and GF’s. But no matter where I was or who I was with, if I knew you were there I knew I was safe and I know you made others feel the same way and I always had alot of respect for you for that reason. I appreciate it bro.

Dear Sadie, Chris and Billy, I have a hard time accepting the fact that Josh is gone. It was 3 weeks ago one night that I was going into my house and before I could get in the door I hear a deep Voice hollering, “Coach Willett, Coach Willett’!! I looked down my drive and it was Josh Tharpe, running up to me asking, ‘how are you doing and whats new with you!” Josh was always a high spirited personally.. It was always good to see my former 8ty grade basketball player. Most of all, I remember Josh being a smiling inspiration to all those he met. Josh was a friend to all and will be missed by all of us who knew him…

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Josh’s passing. We didn’t cross paths often after graduating but when we did he was always friendly, cheerful, and just all-around easy to get along with.

We went to school together, lived in the same neighborhood for years way back when, same age. Just unbelievable. My heart hurts for Josh’s family and close friends. His life was cut short, but man, what a life he lived while here.
