Peggy Jeanette Hastings, 80, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, passed away peacefully June 19, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Hospice. She was a widow, mother, grandmother, and retired teacher in the Bossier Parish School System. She was born in Eros, Louisiana, to Wilda and Lannie Mac Busbice. Peggy was a long-time resident of Bossier City before coming to live with her daughter and her family in Denham Springs. She attended Northeastern Louisiana University in Monroe, Louisiana. She taught for many years in Bossier Parish. Peggy loved the children she taught, every one, and was proud to have been their teacher. She loved to read. She was often seen with book in hand, even in the wee hours of the night. She loved to travel with her daughters, often recalling trips they had taken together. Peggy enjoyed sitting in the garden amongst the flowers and listening to the birds sing. She was always ready to go out to eat, especially if it was a Mexican restaurant. She enjoyed attending Mass at her church, and going to various church activities. Peggy loved her church family very much. Most of all, though, she loved her grandsons. They were all she talked about.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister and son-in-law. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Houghes and husband, Brian; daughter, Susan Bogard and husband, Jeff; and her three grandsons, Joseph, Grayson, and Rene.
Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Denham Springs, Thursday, June 23, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Durwin Walker for taking such good care of Peggy. Also, special thanks to St. Joseph’s Hospice, especially Susie, Tila, Bernice, Kaye, Mark, Chad, Trig, Hope, and Joyce, and the many others there that took such wonderful care of our mom. Also, a special thanks to Sam Causey for loving our mom as the face of Jesus here on earth. There are no words to thank you enough for the love you showered on her. Thank you to Father Taylor Sanford, and Deacon Michael Chiappetta for bringing her the sacraments and praying so many prayers for her. Thank you to all our friends and family for the love and prayers you provided Mom and us. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

I remember Peggy well, from the 6th grade in Sterlington, LA, throughout High School at Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, LA. Peggy was one of the Friendliest and Most Intelligent, Christian Ladies I Have Ever Known! I will never forget her! May God Bless and be with her family and give them Peace and Comfort at this time.
