Juanita ‘Granny’ Laird
Passed away peacefully on July 22, 2022, 5 days shy of her 83rd birthday. She retired from Baum’s Bakery & Fine Pastries as a decorator & wedding planning specialist. Nita loved to be around people and loved life. She never met a stranger and there was never a dull moment while in her presence. She was everyone’s granny! Singing, dancing and entertaining friends and family were her absolute favorite things to do, besides traveling to Nashville with her best friend and ‘sister’ Audrey Guidroz (Red) to enjoy the bands on Broadway. She was preceded in death by her first husband Jerry Humphrey of Pride, LA; widowed by Gene Laird of West Lake, LA. Nita lost her eldest daughter Sherrie ‘Tootie’ Gomez in May 2021. She is survived by her sons Gary Dale Humphrey and Barry Brent Humphrey, daughter Terri Lynn ‘Lulu’ Covington all of Denham Springs. She was blessed with lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Bradley Michael Gomez and spouse Nichole-Miles Gomez. Jessica Perrault and spouse Joshua-Emerson ‘Emmy’ Perrault , Carson Perrault. Amanda Humphrey, Nicole Humphrey-James ‘JD’ Lambert, Izabella ‘Bella’ Lambert. Christina H Tucker and spouse Jason-Savannah Tucker, Cameron Tucker. Brittany Jones and spouse Danny (VA). Kaitlyn Mixon and spouse Brandon-Blakely Burns, Sawyer Mixon. Ashleigh Lewis and spouse Chris. Hannah Humphrey, the granddaughter she took under wing. Dustin Covington and spouse Bridget-Landry Covington, Avalyn Covington. Pallbearers are Gary Dale Humphrey, Dustin Covington, Bradley Gomez, Joshua Perrault, Matthew Azar, Travis ‘LT’ Dodson, and Jordon Gray. ALL were very dear to heart.
Visitation will take place at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs beginning at 10:00 am on Monday July 25, followed by services at 12:00 pm. Burial will be at Sandy Creek Baptist Church in Pride, LA. Special thanks to the entire staff at Old Jefferson Community Care Center and Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge for all the care and love that was shown to her. Nita was loved by many and she will be missed by all that knew her.
