Edward Lee Averette
February 13, 1935 – July 25, 2022
Edward Lee Averette of Denham Springs went home to be with the Lord Monday morning July 25th, 2022, at his residence in Denham Springs with his wife by his side. He was 87, born in Frost on Feb 13 th , 1935. Survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Brenda Wascom Averette; a daughter and son in law, Brenda and Darryl Yawn; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael “Mike” and Karen, Doug and Amanda, and Jason and Lindsay Averette; two brothers and a sister-in- law Malcom, Richard and Donis Averette. Granddaughters: Ashley (Brady)Bagwell, Kimberly (Bradley) Vercher, Emily, Morgan, Brennan, and Hayden Averette. Grandsons: David Gautreaux, Michael Brandon (Sarah), and Justin Averette, Brody McCoy, Ty (Brittney) and Dylan Welch. Nine great-grandchildren: Kaden and Remy Averette, Avery and Emery Bagwell, Mary Clare, Madelyn and James Gautreaux, Kent, and Luke Vercher. Also, numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Elmo and Johnie Lea Averette; mother and father-in-law, Percy & Olivia Wascom; two brothers and three sisters-in-law; Ray and Earline, Raymond (Boo) and Wanda, and Carol Ann Averette. He was a member of DSHS Class of ‘53 of which he had a strong relationship with all his classmates. Ed lived his life by loving God, family, friends, and entertaining people through music. He was a loving husband, father, Paw Paw, great grandfather, brother, and a loyal and passionate friend to many. His legacy will live on through generations to come. He enjoyed life to the fullest with family and friends, and the Happy Camping Bunch. He played music with various country bands in his younger days. Later he and his brothers formed the Averette Brothers Band and were seen at the Old South Jamboree most Saturday nights. He also played for many wedding receptions, Christmas and private business parties, events at nursing homes, assisted living and Council on Aging. In his earlier years he worked in the local grocery stores, including Art’s Supermarket and later A & P. After his marriage he changed careers and retired from East Baton Rouge School Board. He loved traveling to various places with his wife Brenda and many times in caravan style with other campers. And of course, the Happy Camping Bunch played music and that entertainment was a highlight of the camping trips. October usually found Ed and Brenda in Mt. View, AR where many friends from various states would meet and play music. He met and made many long-lasting friendships along the way and traveled many miles including driving to Canada and Alaska. Visiting will be at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Wednesday, August 3rd from 5-8 pm and resume at 10 am Thursday. A celebration of life service will be held in the chapel at noon conducted by Paul Carlin. Burial in Evergreen Memorial Park. Honored to serve as pallbearers are David Gautreaux, Brady Bagwell, Michael Brandon and Kaden Averette, Ty Welch, and Cole Villines. Honorary pallbearers are Ronald and Robert Harris, Wallace Trahan and Dale Lafleur. Special thanks to his wonderful caregiver/friend and “Boss” John Cardy that gave him so much compassion and care this last year.
