Charles “Paul” Frederick, II, age 52, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, answered when God called him by name and asked him to return home on Friday, October 21, 2022. Paul fought a short but courageous battle with cancer with hope and determination. He was granted mercy by passing quickly and peacefully at home surrounded by his wife, family, and friends. For 12 years, Paul was married to the love of his life, Tracy Frederick. Together, they shared a love for their fur baby, Lily Vegas, music, and everything LSU. They often entertained family and friends where Paul was the grill master on his Green Egg. Paul adored his two children, Hannah Katherine Frederick and Cameron James Frederick. Sharing his quick wit and humor with them created a special bond that will never be broken. In 1987, Paul graduated high school from Parkview Baptist. He went on to become an LSU Fighting Tiger earning a degree in Geology in 1995. While attending LSU, he started his 30-year career at US Geological Survey (USGS). This is when Paul officially became a “Rock Hound,” collecting rocks from his various work travels. Paul is also survived by his parents, Charles Paul Frederick, Sr., and Katherine Susan Chadwick Frederick; his brother, Clay Frederick and wife, Kelli; his nephew, Nick Frederick and his two nieces, Madelyn and Gabbie Frederick. Paul was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hodgie Paul Frederick and Inez Ocmand Frederick; and his maternal grandparents, John Harold Chadwick and Doris Mobley Chadwick. We will honor Paul in a celebration of his life on Sunday, November 6, 2022. In memory of his outgoing personality, we ask that you wear your favorite LSU attire or a bright color of your choice. Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, Louisiana, beginning at 12:00 p.m. with services starting at 2:00 p.m. There will be no graveside services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Denham Springs Animal Shelter or Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge.

I’m so sorry to learn of Paul’s passing. We were USGS colleagues and spent time working together back in the day at the USGS gage in Baton Rouge. I would still see him every so often and we communicated a bit in the spring. He always talked about his family, LSU and the big green egg, as well as a mean jambalaya that I regret never having tried. He was a good friend and will be missed.

What a great guy. I am just sick that someone so full of life and love could be taken so young. It isn’t fair. I was very lucky to have worked so closely with Paul for so long. I counted on him daily, he was always positive and kind. I’m so sorry Tracy, Hannah, and Cameron- you are the ones who will suffer without him the most. John and I will be out of town this weekend so will not be at the memorial but will be wearing LSU clothes and thinking about you all and Paul. (It would be great if LSU would beat Alabama on Saturday-Paul will be watching, I am sure.)

We are so sorry for your loss. We know Paul is in a better place now and he did not suffer long. What a wonderful, compassionate, and caring man. He had a sacrificial love for his fellow man and always stopped what he was doing to help his family, friends, and coworkers (John 15:12). We will miss you until we meet again.
Love,
The Mizes

The Collins family are thinking and praying for the Frederick family during this difficult time. Paul’s joy, wit, intellect, and smile will surely be missed here at USGS. Through his love of rocks, he left us this message “A diamond is a piece of rock that handled stress really well…” It resonates now as a description of Paul’s personality for sure and memories to be held of him in his resilience to live life in a positive light no matter the circumstances. He touched many with his friendly smile and daily attitude! May the bereaved Frederick family have peace and comfort.

Tracy, we were taken back when we heard about Paul. Then the good memories started flowing back, the wonderful dinner you guys hosted at your house, the fun we had on False River @ Sunperch , the couple times Paul was at the shop on Millerville!
I am so very sorry for your loss and know it will be a big change for you but I also know your faith and know that God is by your side through everything and your faith will be the thing that gets you through.
Prayers for you and your family!
