Janet Carol Hill Martin

Family and friend to all

She was born on January 30, 1960 in Dallas Texas to her parents Gloria Ann Hill (Lee) and Terry Hill. They moved to Baton Rouge with her two sisters Libby and Emilie, who looked up to her for everything. Once she graduated Broadmoor High school in 1978, her life would take off.

Jan had a varying career history, where she met many wonderful people. She was an office administrator in the hair salon and dental medical field for over 20 years of her life.  She also worked 13 years in the finance industry. Jan had many patients and customers that loved and respected her so dearly. Everyone was special to Jan, and she wanted them to know that.

Jan was a social butterfly and loved meeting new people. You were only a stranger the first time she met you, and a friend shortly after. Little did she know she would meet the love of her life, Jimmy Martin. Jimbeaux had his work cut out for him because she already had her first born, Jeremy. Soon, their small family would grow like the plants on her patio. Blythe came along a couple years into their marriage, and Hunter joined us shortly after that.

Jan’s husband, three kids, and grandchildren meant the world to her. She was the rock of our family, the glue that held us together. She was tough loving, sensitive, and heartfelt in everything she did. Jan was proud of everything that her children accomplished, whether it was living for something greater than themselves, overcoming their darkest times, or the many accomplishments they achieved.

Her friends were also her family. She wanted everyone to feel like they had somewhere to go with food on the table, a bed to sleep in and a patio to sit and spill all your secrets. She had lifelong friends that were like sisters. Jan was “classy and sassy to the end,” “she made the world a better place,” “she was the voice of reason, the big sister I never had,” “the family lifeline, confidant, mother at times, jokester and travel buddy.” These are just a few things that come to mind. Jan really was one of a kind.

Janet Carol Hill Martin, age 62, passed away peacefully in her sleep, at her home in Baton Rouge on January 17, 2023.

Jan was survived by her beloved husband of 32 years, James Martin; her children, Jeremy Duplessis, Blythe Martin (Jasmin Cedotal), and Hunter Martin (Amber Martin); her grandchildren, Bentley, Annabelle, Jaden, Hallie, Aeva and Landry; her sisters, Elizabeth (Libby) Roberts and Emilie Hill.

She is preceded in death by her mother Gloria Ann Lee; her father Terry Hill; and her very special friends, Sandra and Jennifer.

Jan’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Kristenwood Reception Hall at 14025 Greenwell Springs Road, Greenwell Springs, LA 70739 from 1 PM – 4 PM. We invite everyone that wishes to attend.
