Dorothy Annell Newell, 86, a long-term resident of Denham Springs La. and a recent resident of The Claiborne at Shoe Creek located in Baton Rouge, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 11, 2023. After a hard fought battle, she passed at The Crossing in Baton Rouge, La.
Annell was born in Baton Rouge, daughter to Lubye and Ouida Watts on October 23, 1936. Annell graduated from Baton Rouge High School, Class of 54, and was a member of the Eastern Star, Red Hatter’s Club, and various social clubs throughout her life. She was a talented seamstress with the ability to create anything from a picture, and she retired from Anderson Dunham as their bookkeeper. Some of her favorite hobbies included playing the piano, accordion, and humming or singing hymns. She was a member of Amite Baptist Church and active in her Sunday school class until the decline of her health. She had a deep abiding faith in the Lord and put her trust in him. Annell loved to care for and help others. She was a caregiver to many of our family members throughout her life, as she had always wanted to be a nurse.
Preceded in death by R. G. Newell, her loving husband of 53 years, Lubye and Ouida Watts, her parents, Michael C. Banta, her grandson, and her close cousin, Elouise Kent.
Lovingly remembered by her brother Jerry Watts and his wife LeEarle; her daughters Brenda Banta Temple, Kathy Malone and husband Mike, and Shirley Howell; Six grandchildren who affectionately called her Granny included Garrett Banta, Joshua Malone, Ben Howell, Peyton Howell, Natasha Malone, and Zach Howell; and many other extended family members and friends.
Visitation is at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, on Friday, March 17, 2023, beginning at 9:00 am. Rev. Darryl Pupera will conduct funeral services at 11:00 am in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at Amite Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dear Brenda, Kathy, & Shirley,
I am so sorry that I was not able to attend your mother’s funeral service. My husband, Walker Forbes, was your mother’s first cousin. I remember all of you girls and want to tell you that I was sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. I have very fond memories of her and all of her talents, including the time that Walker & I were visiting Aunt Lillie Mae along with our then young daughter who had brought her baby doll who was wearing no clothes. When your mother walked over & saw the doll with no clothes, she immediately walked back to her house & came back with a dress she had sewn up quickly for the doll to wear! I will never forget that sweet gesture of hers. I know that she will be missed! My prayers go out to you for peace & comfort. I do not have addresses for any of you, but want you to know that I am sending a memorial donation to Amite Baptist Church in her name.
Love,
Marion Forbes
