Ms. Barry Melancon Jarreau
Cornelia Barry Melancon Jarreau passed away peacefully on April 2, 2023, surrounded by her family at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice. Barry, as she was affectionally known, was born to Cornelia Smith Parker and Charles Evans Melancon on November 24, 1940, in Lottie, LA. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and husband, John Murphy Jarreau. She is survived by her brothers, Lee Parker and William Parker; daughters and stepdaughter, Mardine J. Dupre, Melissa McAllister, Murphy J. Carley (husband David), Clothilde J. Buxton (husband Scott) and Julia J. Lemann; grandchildren, Charles Jarreau, John Dupre, Cory McAllister, Houston Carley, Evelyn Carley, Jack Carley, Caitlin Lee, Eleanor Berry, Robert Lemann, III, Camille Lemann, and Jeanne Lemann; and great-grandchildren, Daniel Jarreau, Caroline Jarreau, Charley Jarreau, Tucker Dupre, Josie Dupre, Charlotte Arceneaux, and Catherine Lee; and her beloved fur baby, Sophie. Barry attended Livonia High School, received an associate degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at various hospitals and nursing homes before retiring in 2015 from Ascension Parish Health Unit in Donaldsonville. After retirement, she worked as a home health nurse throughout Ascension and Assumption parishes. Barry was an excellent baker and will always be remembered for her pound cake and chocolate and buttermilk pies. She was an avid gardener and was proud of her orchids and flower gardens. Visitation will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Donaldsonville on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 9-10 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am and a private burial at False River Memorial Park in New Roads.
