John W. Bass, Jr., 62, was born August 26, 1960, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A resident of Denham Springs, Louisiana, he entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 10, 2023. He was a graduate of Denham Springs High School in 1978. He was a die-hard LSU sports fan and devoted most of his life to public service as part of the Thin Blue Line. Throughout his career in law enforcement, he was a member of the Denham Springs Police Department and the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, along with other departments in both Mississippi and Alaska. He is survived by his daughter Tiffany Sauseda and husband Poncho, grandchildren Josie Sauseda, Jonathan Sauseda, and Bailey Sauseda, mother Osene Bass, niece Stephanie Smith, grandnephew Kristian Stroud, along with numerous other cousins and family members. He is preceded in death by his father John W. Bass, Sr., sister Debbie Smith, brother-in-law Jay Smith. Serving as pallbearers will be Poncho Sauseda, Ricky Forbes, David Hooter, Brent Dugas, Mark Whitehead, and Ricky Delrie. Honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Lavigne, Kristian Stroud, Mike Sommers, and John Glen McCory. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Clarity Hospice (especially nurses Clare and Blaire), the entire nursing staff at St. Clare Manor, and Mrs. Melanie Ford. We sincerely appreciate the loving care that they provided during his final years. Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, Wednesday, April 12, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will resume Thursday, April 13, from 1 p.m. until service at 3 p.m., officiated by Dr. Leo Miller. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Denham Springs.

We knew each other in Denham Springs PD when I was a Detective. You were a skinny kid back then, and I wish your family well.
