January 6, 1937 – April 15, 2023
Margaret F. “Peggy” Kane was 86 years old when she died on April 15, 2023 at the Landmark of Baton Rouge. She was a retired Lafourche Parish elementary school teacher and she was the head of the daycare at Nicholls State University.
She was born in Roebling, New Jersey on January 6, 1937 to her parents George and Margaret Fekete. She married Joseph J. Kane in 1956 to start a family of three children David, Ronnie and Sandy in Burlington Township New Jersey. A lot of summers were spent in Surf City, New Jersey where she would do the reverse of snowbirding. The majority of her life she resided in Thibodaux, Louisiana near the swamps and sugar cane fields.
She started as a housewife there; learned to drive and finished her Masters in Education at Nicholls State University. Even though she maintained a 4.0 grade point average, her greatest achievement was that she still was a great mother.
Mom was at her best when she was cooking in the kitchen specializing in Hungarian dishes. She was in her element during holidays such as loading us with Christmas presents, Bridge Club with her girlfriends, happy hour for whomever showed up at her place. She was an avid reader, world traveler, loyal Dillards shopper, had a brief flirtation with oil paintings and was a collector of her prized New Orleans Jazz Fest posters. Her face lit up the most when seeing or talking about her grandkids or great grandkids.
