Myra Dell Smith King
Myra Dell Smith King, 86, of Denham Springs, LA, went home to meet our Lord and Savior, on April 21, 2023, due to complications from shingles. Myra was born on December 6, 1936, to Roy and Alyne Smith
in Royse City, TX. In her childhood, Myra was an adorable spitfire, but had several lung issues. When she felt up to it, her father took her to see the brand new “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. She reminded
him of Dopey, so that became a closely held nickname for the rest of her life. Myra went to Royse City High School, the Bulldogs, where she was a member of the drill/color guard team. After
graduation, she went to work for Fireman’ s Fund Insurance Company as a Statistical Typist in Dallas, Texas. One of her favorite stories to tell was that she attended the parade, just blocks away
from where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Her employer allowed them to go down on their lunch break. All she could see was Ms. Kennedy’s pink pill box hat as they drove by.
She and her co-workers then proceeded back to their offices upstairs, and the reports were coming across the radio that the president had been shot. In 1955, Myra married her late former husband,
Lee Allen Walden. During their marriage, they had two daughters. Leeanne was born in June 1956, with Julie following in September 1959. In 1964, the family moved to New Orleans, LA, Where
the family made multiple friends, who would later be considered family. In September 1975, Myra married her second husband, Beverly Tabor King, Jr. From this marriage, her third and final child,
Jonathan would be born prematurely in July 1976. Myra stood strong and fought for her son as he battled speech and hearing issues due to his early entrance into the world. Myra loved drawing,
cooking, and sewing. She was such a talented seamstress, she made uniforms for several groups at Broadmoor High School in Baton Rouge, LA, including the choir, “All that Jazz”, and the “Babes
in Blue”. When she found out her only great grandchild was on the way, she drew individualized artwork for each shower invitation; she was 78 at the time. Myra will be greatly missed. She is survived
by her sister, Annagene Temple (91); children, Leeanne King, Jonathan King (Arden Mikkelson); son-in-law, Stephen Rogers; grandchildren, Jinny Brosius (Joshua), Bradley King, Krista Richard (Earl);
great granddaughter, Bailey Brosius; niece and nephews, David Temple (Nancy) and family, Linda Hansen (Hal) and family, Robert Temple; the Castros and many other friends and extended family.
Myra was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Alyne Smith; husband, BT King, Jr.; daughter, Julie Rogers; son-in-law, BT King; III; step-daughter, Georgia Papizan; grandson, Kevin Bobbitt
and brother-in-law, Bob Temple. A celebration of life is planned for 11:00 am, Monday, May 1, 2023, at Price Cemetery in Pine Grove, LA. “Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon
as the end of the ocean.” Please sign our online registry book.
