Born December 2, 1938 and died August 16, 2023, Richard was a life-long resident of Denham Springs. He was a 1957 graduate of Denham Springs High School, a former member of the Denham Springs Jaycees, and a U.S. Army veteran of 3rd Armoned Division-3rd Batallion-36 Infantry in Kirch-Gons Germany. He had been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1966. He retired from Baton Rouge Water Works after twenty-two and a half years of work, and then from Brian Harris Chevrolet after twelve years of work. He is survived by one son, Dru Nettles (“coach”) and wife Shannon, along with two granddaughters—Claire and Faith, who were the loves of his life and the sunshine in his day, one great-grandson, Jet, 3 brother-in-laws, 5 sister-in-laws, numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great nieces, great-great nephews and great-great nieces, whom he loved upon his own family. Special to him were his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charles and Ellen Milton, friends Carl and Elaine Barnum, and his old car buddy Jimmy Bonano. He is preceded in death by his lovely wife of thirty-five and a half years, Wanda Milton Nettles, and infant daughter Bridget, his mother and father, Hansford (“Bull”) and Labertha Nettles, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Spurgeon and Carrie Milton, 5 brothers—Dennis, James, Hank, Billy, and “Boogie” Nettles, and 2 sisters—Ann Owens and Patsy Hooks. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs beginning at 9:00am. Funeral service will be at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Palmetto Cemetery.
