Ruth Mary Guitreau Genre
“But as it is written, What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of a man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Cor. 2:9 Ruth Mary Guitreau Genre left her earthly home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 21, 2023, just twenty-nine days short of her 99th birthday, surrounded by family. Ruth “Mamere” Genre was born on September 19, 1924, in French Settlement, LA, to Valture and Nita Guitreau. In 1942, she married her grammar school sweetheart, Vincent Genre, and they were together for sixty-seven years until his death in 2009. They were blessed with three
sons, Jimmy, Ferdie, and Peter. Ruth was a natural born caregiver and spent her life caring for others. When husband, Vince, retired in 1977, they spent the next 25 years camping with family and friends. They also enjoyed volunteering and working with the St. Joseph Catholic Church Knights of Columbus and Auxiliary in French Settlement. Ruth was a devout Catholic Christian and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denham Springs, in her later years. Once moving to assisted living in 2009, Ruth became the exercise class leader and a member of the Bingo Bunch. Over the past fourteen years, she formed many close and lasting friendships that meant the world to her. Ruth is survived by her sons, Fernand (Pat) Genre, their children, Brandon (Michelle) Genre, Elizabeth (Casey) Gilbert, and Mark (Morgan) Genre; Peter (Elaine) Genre and their children, Gabe (Emily) Genre and Ben (Christy) Genre; great-grandchildren, Jensen and Aulden Gilbert, Madelyn, Mason, Thomas, Naomi Joy Genre and Baby Genre, due next year, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Vincent Genre, son, James Genre, as well as her sisters, Albertine Marse, Leola Roussel, Velma Berteau, and Rita Guitreau. Thank you to the entire staff of La Plantation Retirement Center in Denham Springs. Ms Ruth loved her home there. The family wishes to thank her precious caregivers, Marie, Deborah, Maudine, Anna, Nelda, Annette, Melissa, and Peggy. We appreciate your kindness, love and support, during Ms. Ruth’s illness. Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs on Thursday, August 24, 2023, from 5 P.M. – 8 P.M with a Rosary service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume Friday, August 25, 2023, at Seale Funeral Home at 11 A.M. until 1 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 P.M. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denham Springs, LA. Life Earthside feels incomplete without you. You were my sanctuary. I’m so grateful to have had someone to love so fiercely for so long. Your favorite time of year is here (not the weather but CHRISTmas!). I’ll miss you always and love you forever.
