Lynn Wade Averette, 75, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, retired lieutenant of the Baton Rouge Police Department, died Monday, September 18, 2023, at OLOL Medical Center. Lynn was born on October 26, 1947 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to parents Glynn Edwin Averette and Vivian Patricia Averette. After attending Istrouma High School, Lynn served in the United States Army where he was deployed to Berlin and Vietnam. After returning home, he attended Southern University and was hired by the Baton Rouge Police Department where he supervised the intelligence division. He retired from the Baton Rouge Police Department in 1997 and was hired by the Louisiana State Police Department where he worked as an investigator until he officially retired in 2007. Lynn was a true Louisiana Sportsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was dedicated to making sure his family was loved and taken care of and enjoyed spending time with them. He is survived by his wife Shirley, daughter Staci Cox, son and daughter-in-law Glynn and Nicole Averette, daughter and son-in-law Sandi and Joel Buff, sisters Peggy Palmer, Bonnie Johnson, Betty Montgomery, brother Davie Averette, grandchildren Ashlyn and Trent Holmes, Payton Mangham, Hannah Buff, Madi Buff, Isabelle Averette, Ella Averette, and great-grandchildren Louis Holmes and Eliot Holmes. He is preceded in death by his father Glynn E. Averette, mother and step-father Pat and Eddie Nichols, brother Marvin Averette, sister Jeanette Matson, infant grand-daughter Jordyn Buff, and mother and father-in-law Ancel and Nobie Faust. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Seale Funeral Home on S. Range Avenue in Denham Springs on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 5 to 7 pm. The family would like to give a special thanks to the medical staff at OLOL for the exceptional and compassionate end of life care they provided.
