Carol Celeste Ferguson Cowart (Maw) was born on December 24, 1939 In Mobile Christmas baby born to Benjamin Otis and Fannie Belle Ferguson. She had 9 brothers and sisters. She met her husband, Gene, at a cafe in Baton Rouge La and they were married on July 3,1956 in Liberty Mississippi. They went on to have 5 children and 10 grandchildren. She was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She loved her family, flowers and her gardening, Her babies, and her beloved dog, Gizmo.
She carried the weight of many names. She walked this Earthly ground as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. Some called her an inspiration, the strongest person they’d ever known, and her family would agree, no truer words had ever been spoken. We just called her “Maw”… Though she is gone, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those blessed to have been in her presence. Her Heavenly Father said “your work is done, Come to me and rest”. Her spirit has shed its binds and now she sits as our angel above.
Carol went home to be with our Lord and her husband on October 25, 2023, at the age of 83 with her caregiver and beloved granddaughter, Celeste Cowart Winkle, and her husband Roy Winkle Sr. and her great grandchildren, and her pride and joy, Cassie, Roy Jr and Belle by her side. Having been diagnosed with Dementia and aphasia in 2016, she wanted to spend her last year’s with Celeste and her family as she had always planned.
