Susan Forbes Hughes

Susan Lynn Forbes Hughes of Denham Springs, LA passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Our Lady of the Lake Ascension hospital. She was 60 years old.

Susan was born on February 8, 1963 in Baton Rouge, LA to George Rudolph “Rudy” and Joyce Matherne Forbes. She graduated from Walker High School in 1981 where she was valedictorian and a member of the basketball and softball teams.

Susan had recently retired, 2 years ago, from Livingston Parish Public Schools. She worked there for 33 years. Her titles over the years included teacher, basketball coach, assistant softball coach, and Adapted Physical Education Teacher.

Susan loved God, her family, her friends, and all of her students and players over the years. She touched many lives with her generosity and passion for life. She liked to hunt and fish before her health wouldn’t allow it anymore. She enjoyed watching college/professional basketball and football. She especially liked LSU and New Orleans Saints. She loved classic country music and Elvis. She was an avid reader whether it be hard copy or on her kindle. Her top choices were the Bible, devotional books, and John Grisham novels.

Susan is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Donald “Donnie” Hughes; grandparents Nolan and Donnis Jones Matherne; Willie and Bertha Sibley Forbes.

She is survived by her daughter Chrissa Hughes Phillips (Sammy Joe); her son Donnie T. Hughes; her grandchildren Raven Phillips, Bretlyn Phillips, Patrick Phillips, and Christopher Phillips; her parents George Rudolph “Rudy” Forbes and Joyce Matherne Forbes; her siblings Donna Byers(Mack), Willie Forbes (Julia), Ben Forbes (Beth), Glenn Forbes(Stacey), and Alice Lafleur (Daniel), and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs on Sunday October 29, 2023 from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Visitation will resume Monday, October 30, 2023 at 9:00am. Rev. Paul Jones will conduct funeral services at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, American Cancer Society, or American Heart Association.
