Clara Faye Slaton Blount
Clara Faye Slaton Blount was born on February 26, 1941 and raised in Denham Springs. She was raised in the church by Christian parents and she was schooled in Denham Springs. Between church and school and a large family of aunts, uncles, and cousins she knew just about everybody and nearly everyone knew her. She met Willie Hale Blount when she was 15 years old and they married in 1957. Together they raised three children Jean Ann, Anthony, and Suzanne. Clara Faye was driven by her faith and she tried, in all things, to honor her Lord Jesus. Some may have called her strict or stubborn, but she lived by the desire to always be on the right side of right. If you knew her, you loved her. You also know she didn’t back down or give in or give up on anything she felt strongly about. She remained a strong and passionate woman until her death on November 7, 2023.
Clara Faye loved music. She insisted that her children learn to play some kind of instrument. She herself learned to play a few notes on the piano, but her favorite musical offering was to sing in the choir at her church. She also sang with the Baton Rouge Chorus for a time. She also loved art and crafts and she was a talented seamstress. Throughout her life she made clothes and home window treatments. She even made costumes for Baton Rouge Little Theatre productions for a time. Another passion was flowers and plants. Her yard is filled with beautiful plants, flowers, shrubbery and fruit trees and she would happily walk you through her yard if you visited her.
She also enjoyed traveling to places near and far. She loved a good road trip or a shopping trip. She liked the seafood buffet, the junk store, and was particularly fond of the jewelry, purse, and shoe stores. In her last days here on earth when it was difficult to shop, Anthony took her on as many drives as he could and we know she was happy to ride along.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Willie Hale Blount; children, Willie Anthony Blount and wife, Aimee, Jean Ann Blount, and Suzanne Blount; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Jerry Slaton; sisters, Marguerite Slaton Dedon and Shirley Jean Slaton Roe and husband, Roy; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joel William Slaton and Mary Lena LeJeune Slaton; great grandson, Bryce William Edling; and sister, Betty Lou Slaton Thames; sister-in-law, Betty Terrell Slaton
