Shirley Jean Winding
Shirley Jean Winding was a resident of Baton Rouge, LA and transitioned to eternal life on January 02, 2024. She was born April 08, 1956 to the late Izer “Mice” and Emma Simmons.
To know Shirley was to love Shirley. She was a kind and gentle spirit that could melt your heart with her smile. She genuinely loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them all. In all her many titles from mom to grandma to auntie to sister and to friend, grandma had to be her absolute favorite. She absolutely loved spoiling all her grandbabies every chance she got. Shirley was extremely proud to be a mother and often stated her greatest accomplishment in life was her children.
In her later years of life, she truly built an amazing and stronger relationship with the Lord. She was a long-time member of the New Abundant Life Tabernacle and often spoke to “her pastor” Elder Odell Winding and “her First Lady” Vicky Winding about getting her healing. We believe in her transition to eternal life, she received just that.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories, her son Marcus Winding of Baton Rouge, LA, her daughter Cynthia Winding-Renthrope (Corey) of Denham Springs, LA, all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, her sisters Liz McCray of Walker, LA and Gloria Simmons of Baton Rouge, LA, her brothers Willie Simmons of Maringouin, LA, Nelson Simmons (Wanda) of Geismar, LA, Ernest Simmons (Shimeta) of Walker, LA and Raymond Simmons (Christine) of Walker, LA, and a host of niece and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Mice and Emma Simmons and siblings, Frank Simmons, Isaac Simmons, Albert Simmons, and Dan Simmons Sr.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday January 13, 2024 at The New Abundant Life Tabernacle located at 4025 Denham Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70805 at 11:00 am.
