Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Norred Davis

Mary Elizabeth Norred Davis, 86, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024 at her home in Greenwell Springs, LA. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, but mostly a devoted woman of faith.

Selma and Loren Norred had a little girl they named Mary Elizabeth Norred on May 13, 1937.  Most people would come to know her as Elizabeth or Liz.  She grew up in the community of Jonesboro-Hodge, La. Liz was a graduate of Jonesboro High School.  She worked at the Hodge pharmacy in 1955 after graduation.  Liz met her beloved Louis “Louie” Davis at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Jonesboro, whom she would later marry on November 7th, 1957.  At the time Louie was serving in the U.S. Army at Ellsworth . in South Dakota.  They started their family there with their first son Donald Glenn.  After Louie’s military service they returned to Louisiana in the Baton Rouge area.  In 1961 they bought a house in the Greenwell Springs, La area where they lived for their entire lives.  They would have two more sons Michael Louis and Mark Lane Davis.  Liz loved spending time with her family, cooking, traveling, reading and drinking a good cup of hot black coffee.

One thing that would define a large part of her life was a strong devotion to her Lord Jesus.  She was committed to pray, reading the Bible and studying about the Lord.  Liz would talk often about the Lord and find ways to help people. She was a long time member of Greenwell Springs Baptist Church.  Liz had a beautiful smile and a sweet spirit.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by sons Donald Davis (Rhoda) and Michael Davis(Deborah). She has four grandchildren, Nicole Magill (Phillip), Morgan Dinecola (Rip), Regan Sanders (Cody) and Carson Davis and nine great grandchildren, Reese, Molly and Camden Magill and Ava, Adelyn “Ady”, Millie, Grainger, Hudson, and Henry Dinecola. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Louis Manley Davis; son, Mark Davis; parents, Selma and Lorene Norred; brother, Jack Norred.

Visitation will be held at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church, Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 9am-11am with funeral service starting at 11am. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
