“Lil John”

John Maury Goodwin, “Lil John”, of Watson, left this world and joined his Lord and Savior Jesus in the Heavenly Realm on February 5th, 2024. He was 86 years old. He was born on October 26, 1937, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to parents Neal Duncan Goodwin and Florence Clossner Goodwin.

John was a cross country, truck driver for more than 10 years. He was awarded a plaque for a “Million Miles of Safe Driving”. Afterwards, he worked for the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office (LPSO) for 22 years, the District Attorney’s Office for 16 years, and he finished his driving career for the Livingston Parish School Board as a bus driver until his retirement.

He was a member of Live Oak Church in Watson. He was inducted into the Masonic Lodge in 1971. John had strong music talent. He could play any instrument he picked up, and he never had any type of music lessons. He loved playing the piano for Justin Wilson and the LPSO band. He loved camping and traveling with his wife Ruth. He also loved cooking and visiting with his family and friends.

John was survived by his wife, Ruth Goodwin of 64 years; sister, Sarah Mericer; daughters, Sharon Davis (Randy), Sissy Benard (Jim), Barbie Allen (Bryan), and son, Johnny Goodwin (Jackie); grandchildren, Danielle, Diane, Staci, Cory, Kayla, Colby, Lacey, Shelby and Sydney. John has 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Neal Duncan Goodwin and Florence Closener Goodwin; his special aunt, Lillie Bell Closener; sister, Jo Duncan Price; granddaughter, Brandi Michelle Pebworth.

Funeral services will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, February 6th, 2024, from 5pm to 8pm, with the LPSO Honor Guard, and a Masonic service at 7pm. Visitation will resume Wednesday morning, February 7th, 2024, from 10am to 11am, with his Celebration of Life Service beginning at 11am, officiated by Dr. Mark Crosby and Pastor Stephen Hebert. Interment will follow in the Live Oak Church Cemetery in Watson, Louisiana. Pallbearers will be Jim Bernard, Randy Davis, Bryan Allen, Johnny Goodwin, Colby Whittington, Cory Bernard, Chad Clement, Dylan Chassaing and Andrew Melton.
