April Donielle Hood Schaff died suddenly on January 1, 2024, she was 44 years old. She is the daughter of Boyd and Cheryl Gene Hood of Greenwell Springs, LA and the sister of Daniel Hood. April grew up loving LSU, especially LSU baseball, and earned her bachelor’s degree from LSU in general studies and worked in human resources for most of her career. While working at the LSU bookstore, she met and fell in love with her future husband, Louis Martin II, and they celebrated their 20-year anniversary in November while renewing their vows to each other. April and Louis have three children, Evie (16), Lily (12), and Louis Peter III (9). Her family was her priority, and it shows in the loving, kind, and faith-driven children she and Louis have raised.
April was the best- the best wife, daughter, mother, sister, and friend. If you were in her circle, then you felt loved, listened to, and cared for. She was smart (she could beat almost anyone at trivia). She was funny and could turn an ordinary situation into a hilarious story with her wit and observations of the small things in life. She loved the arts, whether it was books, music, movies, she enjoyed going to concerts and shows with her family and friends and shared this love with her children. April was a breast cancer survivor and the older she got, she appreciated and was grateful for each and every day she was given. And she loved her family more than anything- you couldn’t find a more devoted wife and mom.
She was just a good person.
Even though our hearts are heavy, and we will continue here on this earth without her with us, we are comforted to know that she is a daughter of God and she is with Him and looking down on us from above.
Her services will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Baton Rouge on February 15th. The visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 followed by mass at 2:30.
