Barbara Hudson Martin

December 30, 1943 – February 27, 2024

Barbara Martin, 80, of Denham Springs, passed away on February 27, 2024, after a brief health battle. She was at her home and surrounded by her loved ones and with her cat in her lap.

Barbara was born on December 30th, 1943, to Author and Evelyn Hudson in Baton Rouge, LA. She was an attendee of Istrouma High School and later graduated from Ray J’s Beauty College. She worked many years at the exclusive downtown City Club before opening her own home salon. At the beginning of 1966, she met the love of her life, Jacob Martin Jr on a blind date and they married shortly thereafter. Over their almost 58 years of marriage, they had three children. Lisa Mayeux (Eric Mayeux), Stephen “Troy” Martin, and Mandy Taylor (Brett Taylor). Three grandchildren, Tory, Ryne, and Londyn; and five great-grandchildren Harmony, Emalynn, Bexley, Troy and Rochelle. And of course, her precious fur baby, Luna Belle.

Barbara’s world was her family, and all that came with that. From the early years of dance recitals, band gigs, and softball games with her children to the later years of watching those children have children of their own.  She truly enjoyed spoiling the grands (as most grandparents do) But don’t you dare call her Grandmaw or Granny, because she was too “cool” for that. She was MeMe! MeMe to not only her family, but by so many others that met her. She was often referred to as a “beautiful soul”. No ounce of hate was found in her heart, and she always had room to help others and give a little when she could to those who had less. She always considered herself abundantly blessed to be surrounded by family and friends. She was a believer in Jehovah and knew she was going to a better place.

Barbara is proceeded in death by her father Author Clifton Hudson, her mother Evelyn Ruth (Gunby) Hudson, her sister Patricia Gayle DeBacco, her brother Author Clifton Hudson Jr. “Peanut”, and her son Stephen “Troy” Martin.

A Memorial Service will be held at Seale Funeral Home located on 1720 S Range Ave, Denham Springs, LA on March 9, 2024 between 3pm and 6pm with a short Celebration of Life Service following where we will have a few people speak and then ask anyone to join and share in their stories. We ask that all who attend to wear an article of clothing in pink to represent her favorite color and to symbolize love and compassion for her life spent here on earth.

The family asked that in lieu of flowers please donate to The American Diabetes Association (ADA) in her name.
