Deborah Ann Hebert Mack

Deborah Ann Hebert Mack, or Mama Deb as she was affectionately known by many, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the St. Joseph’s Carpenter House after a brief illness.

Debbie was born in Baton Rouge seventy years ago on the Fourth of July. It was fitting that she was born on Independence Day, because she was one of the most independent and colorful women around. Although she had an accounting degree from BRCS, most of her life was spent as a homemaker. It brought her joy to remember the volunteer work she did at her children’s schools and in the Colyell community where she raised her family. As they grew older, she worked various jobs where she met numerous people that would become lifelong friends. In her later life, even though she was legally blind and had to use a wheelchair to get around, Debbie continued to live life to the fullest. Since her middle son lived in Korea and the Philippines after retiring from the Air Force, she traveled alone to both locations to visit him. Those trips and the people she met were some of her most treasured memories. If you ever met Debbie, you knew she had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off her back. She never met a stranger, and by the end of the conversation you had made a new friend!

Debbie is survived by three children: Earl and wife Angela, Spencer and wife Raquel, and Mary Edwards. She was “Nanny” to 11 grandchildren: Hunter, Courtney, Taylor, Morgan, Dom, Joseph, Samantha, Cameron, Tristan, Trenton, Kylan and 3 great-grandchildren Lilyth, Charlotte, and Ava Claire. She also leaves behind three brothers: Billy, Kenny, and Greg Hebert, and two special friends that she thought of as sisters, Debby Sullivan and Frieda Elrod. She has numerous close friends whom she thought of as family, and a host of friends she made all over the world. She is preceded in death by her parents William Hebert and Ida Cason Kraemer.

Celebration of Life services will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Colyell Baptist Church. Family visitation will be from 4-5 PM, and open visitation will begin at 5 PM.
