Charles “Pops” Rivault
Charles Rivault passed away peacefully on May 5, 2024, at the age of 84. Charles was known as “Pops” Rivault to all who loved him, both family and friends. He was born and raised in Prairieville, Louisiana where he was raised with his four sisters and one brother. He married Peggy Champagne, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1960 and he often told the story of how he had to sell his horse to take his bride to Biloxi for their honeymoon. Together, they moved to New Orleans where he attended and graduated from Loyola University with a degree in Pharmacy in 1962. He loved his profession and practicedpharmacy for 58 years, caring for patients from Denham Springs, where he owned his own pharmacy, to Livonia/Maringouin area, where he worked in his later years. Charles and Peggy built one of the first homes in Audubon Terrace and have been members of St. George Catholic Churchsince 1966, where they raised their family. Pops lived in service to his family, friends, and all that knew him. He was a sensitive man that put others before himself, both in his words and in his actions. Since his death, many have reached out to his family to express how Pops inspired them to be a better father, a better husband, a better human. He truly lived his values in his everyday life and would often share his perspective if you talked to him about your own life: “Everything will work out”. When you spent time with Pops, he was always present, no matter what else may have been happening in his own life: “It’s your day and I have nothing but time”. His happy place was his camp in New Roads where he watched many sunsets from the pier with his family. He loved fishing and would never throw back any fish, no matter how small. Pops also loved hunting and would admit that he would often just watch deer, instead of shooting them. Pops is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy Rivault, his daughter, Tammy Rivault (Jim Jenkins) of Baton Rouge, his son Kevin Rivault (Renee) of Lafayette, and his son Darrin Rivault of Dallas, TX. He was blessed with five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Patrick Remson and Katherine Renken and their son Matthew, Allison and Trevor Young and their daughter Isadore, Amanda and Kellen Manorand their three children, Eli, Emery, and Eleanor, and Adam and Frieda Rivault, and Austin Rivault (deceased) who we know was waiting to greet Pops and is fishing with him now. Each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren were so very dear to him and he kept up with each of them to share in their lives. For his special soul, we are grateful. He taught us many lessons on how to live a selfless life, how to live-in gratitude, and how to genuinely love.
The family would like to thank the five ladies that helped care for Pops over the last two years: Kathy Hounshell, whom he loved like his daughter, Stacy McCray who made him laugh, Angela Thomas who he would listen to, and Gloria Turner who shared with us how much Pops helped her when she lost her own husband, and Pat Atkinson who was a caregiver and became a friend. Mere words are not enough for these soulful women who were there for Pops and our family. Also, Ingrid and Renee, the nurses from Audubon Hospice who saw him weekly and helped our family manage his care so that he had the best quality of life to enjoy with his family.
Services will be held at St. George Catholic Church, 7808 St. George Drive, Baton Rouge, LA, on Friday, May 17, 2024. Visitation with family will begin at 10:30 AM with a Funeral Mass at 12 Noon.
