Beryle Frances McCaleb

Beryle Frances McCaleb entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the age of 81. She was born at home in Brooke, VA on October 4th, 1942. It took 2 days before they could get her to the hospital to get registered, so our official date of birth is 10/6/42, which is something that she has argued and fought against her entire life.

Beryle left VA and relocated to LA with her young husband, Alfred F. McCaleb III, when she was still a teenager. She spent the rest of her adult life in Louisiana, finally put to rest near her beloved China Grove.

A strong, resilient, and determined woman, Beryle loved spending time laughing with and loving on her family. She enjoyed being a nanny, gardening, collecting knick-knacks, antique shopping, going on rides, snacking on Fig Newtons, and always had a deep affection for animals, fostering many throughout her lifetime. She will be missed by her friends and family.

Beryle is survived by her loving sons and daughters-in-law: Alfred F. McCaleb IV with Kathrina McCaleb and Theodore H. McCaleb Sr with Lisa McCaleb, as well as Michelle McCaleb. She is also survived by her sister, Ginger T. Mellor, with husband Buddy and her brother, Joe Turnbull, with wife Rose.

Her legacy continues through her sister Anne’s children: Michael Comeaux, Steven Comeaux, and Lauri Carter; her grandchildren: Alfred F. McCaleb V, Kimberly McCaleb, Jacob McCaleb, Courtney McCaleb, Theodore H. McCaleb Jr., Cameron McCaleb, Jennifer Henry, Roxanne Denton, and Harley Baham; and her 15 great-grandchildren.

Beryle was preceded in death by her mother, Pearl Turnbull Schmitt; her father, Joseph Eugene Turnbull Sr.; her sister, Teresa ‘Anne’ Comeaux and Anne’s grandson Brandon Carter; her close friends, Joyce and Diane; and her beloved son, Robert Eugene McCaleb.

Private family services will be held at the family’s plot near China Grove. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local animal shelter. Beryle spent her entire life dedicated to rescuing dogs and providing them with forever homes.

May her soul rest in heaven, Psalm 62:1.
