Steven (Estavan) Bernath
Steven (Estavan) Bernath, a beloved and generous man of faith, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024, in Denham Springs, LA, at the age of 75. He was born on September 12, 1948, in Osterode, Germany to Miklos and Ester Bernath. Steven and his family moved to the United States in 1949 and he was later declared a U.S. citizen in 1974, at 25 years of age.
Steven’s life was marked by his unwavering faith and dedication to serving others and he embodied the true spirit of Christian charity and kindness, always willing to give to help anyone in need. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Southwestern Assembly of God on May 7, 1976. His career was a testament to his calling; he dedicated himself to missionary work, served as a traveling ordained minister, and was an active member of his church the Glory of God Worship Center. Steven also channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into founding two electronic stores, Com-tronics (Comics & Electronics), and later Steve’s Comics, Cards & Coins, which he owned and operated for 35 years.
Steven’s love for his family was profound and he loved spending time with his family anytime he could. In his earlier years, he loved traveling to Houston with family to enjoy Astroworld, Waterworld, and his Houston Astros. He was an avid LSU and New Orleans Saints fan and enjoyed most sports. He also had a passion for raising turkeys, chickens, and ducks, particularly his beloved pet turkey, Barbie. He was an avid fisherman who cherished every opportunity to cast a line. Steven had a deep appreciation for movies, documentaries, history, and most of all working in his garden and on his many types of plants. Those who knew Steven will remember his joyous, selfless, kind, and witty personality. He had a unique ability to bring happiness to others, and his legacy of love and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Steven Bernath was a man of great faith and immense compassion, and his life was a blessing to many.
He is survived by his nephews Frank Bernath, Mark Bernath, Paul Bernath, Joey Bernath, John and Harry Reed, Carl Noormaa, John, Paul, and Michael Arendash, Lui Toth, Bobby Sullivan Jr, his nieces Tammy Jeannsonne, Candace and Sharon Bernath, Gloria and Linda Noormaa, Anne Barron, Elizabeth Johnson, Vicki Sullivan; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezter and Miklos Bernath, his brothers Frank Bernath, Joe Bernath and his sisters Margit Bernath, Ezter Sullivan, Julia Bernath, Jolan Bernath, and Anna Bernath, and his nephew Peter Bernath and Jimmy Paul Johnson.
A celebration of Steven’s life will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 2 P.M. at the Glory of God Worship Center in Denham Springs, LA. In lieu of flowers, please send a plant or donations to the Glory of God Worship Center in memory of Steven.
