Ronald “Ronnie” Paul Medine Sr., born November 20 1946 in the small town of Donaldsonville, passed peacefully Saturday June 15, 2024. After high school, Ronnie enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a ground-to-air missile operator. Ronnie was a veteran of the Vietnam War and received two Bronze Service Stars.

While on R&R in Vietnam, Ronnie’s love for all things water and fishing come to life as he spent most of his free time while stationed at Cam Ranh Bay crabbing on the ocean.

After the Army, Ronnie acquired a variety of skills working for the phone company, flooring industry and satellite installation. Most recently, he worked as a millwright with Millwright Local #729 working on steam turbine generators and teaching the craft to new millwrights.

Ronnie’s second home was on the water somewhere fishing. Some of his favorite places were Grand Isle, Port Fourchon, and Lake Rosemound. He was also an avid NASCAR fan who was more than a little disappointed when Jeff Gordon retired. He, along with his siblings and their father, was always known as a “collector of treasures.” He loved finding a deal, making a deal, and may have been compared to Sanford from Sanford and Sons. One of the things that many have shared that will be missed the most about Ronnie is just sitting around Mawmaw and Pawpaw’s kitchen table sharing a meal and listening to him tell the best stories about nothing.

Ronnie was a kind man with a sweet soul. His hearty laugh and silly grin will be greatly missed by his partner of almost forty years, Rosemary Howell; daughters Christinia Miller and Jeanne Medine; step-children Peggy Nordstrom and Joseph Howell; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sister Susan Olsen, brother Tommy Medine (Alphia), brother Bruce Medine; sisters-in-law Linda Medine and Karen Ardoin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mervin and Dorothy Medine, his son Ronald Paul Medine Jr., his step-daughter Julie Bergeron, and his brother-in-law Preston Olsen.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Marlene Medine, Sarah Medine, Jeremiah Miller, and Sarah’s children Taylor, Jason, and Ashlynn. They also want to thank Lakeisha Jarrels with Moore Care, Sonya Guillory with Veteran’s Affairs, Keith and Bill from Council on Aging and Amedisys.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 30, from 12pm until memorial service at 3pm.
