Emmet E. Root, of Denham Springs, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024 with his family by his side. Emmet was born to John M. Root, Jr. and Ruby F. Griffin on March 14, 1952, in Baton Rouge, LA. He worked as a talented carpenter and construction hand for much of his life. Emmet also loved raising cattle and tending to his farm. He liked sharing his passion for hunting, fishing and farming with his family and friends, generously offering his outdoor space for others to enjoy regularly.
Emmet’s adventurous and generous spirit is carried on by his three sons and ten grandchildren: John A. Root (Jennifer and son Daniel), Matthew G. Root (Kristen and sons Jackson, Jacob and Judson) and Willis M. Root (Kimberly and children Savannah, Micayla, Easton, Case, Lillian and Thaddeus). Emmet is survived by his mother and his eldest brother, Norman Root. Preceding him in peace are his father and younger brother, John Root.
Beyond his love of building and farming, Emmet was passionate about being involved in his church, Greenwell Springs Baptist. Over the years he sang in the choir, served meals, taught the fourth-grade-boys Sunday School class and cared for members by visiting and doing for others whenever possible. Perhaps reminiscent of his childhood trips to the Florida Keys, Emmet thoroughly enjoyed fishing with his grandkids whenever he could. He was a collector of all things and was pleased to pass off treasures to his kids and grandkids. Emmet enjoyed retelling stories and was always a wealth of information on many topics.
Please join the family in celebrating Emmet’s life in a service to be held at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Greenwell Springs Baptist Church youth ministry.

Mr Emmet cared deeply for his friends and family. He was a strong man in his faith and his endurance. He was generous, wise, and honorable. It was a blessing to us to be his friend and family in Christ. We know we will see him again.
