July 15, 2024by SealeUser4

Michael David “Mike” Whitehead (69) passed away peacefully at his home on July 12, 2024. Mike was a lifelong resident of Denham Springs and a member of the Denham Springs High School class of 1973. Mike spent 42 years of his life working as a beloved barber at Hal’s Hair Reflections in Denham Springs, where he was not only a barber, but a friend to many. He was never short on jokes or stories to tell, and an ordinary haircut appointment always came with entertainment at no extra charge. When he wasn’t at the barber shop, you could find Mike with his family. Whether it be holiday gatherings, watching his sons play sports, or out to dinner with his wife, Mike cherished any time spent with his family. His greatest loves were God, family, his customers, and the relationships he built throughout his life and career.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Janet Williamson Whitehead and two sons, Brandon (Rachel), and Kevin (Hope). Mike is also survived by his grandchildren, Ainsley, Ava, Averie, and Cullen who called him “Paw Paw”, a title he was most proud of. Michael is also survived by one sister, Lanell Rasberry, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Dewitt “A.D.” Whitehead and Alice Dugas Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Gladys, and a brother Kelton.

Please join the family in celebrating and honoring the life of Michael David Whitehead. Services will take place on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 12:00pm with a memorial service immediately following at 12:00pm.

My husband and I were so sad to hear of Mike’s passing, he cut my hair for about thirty years and was a dear friend to me and my husband. When I finally talked my husband into switching to Mike, they became fast friends. Mike was easy to love, he was a funny, caring guy, you could always count on him to cheer you up if you were down. We were so glad to get a call from him two weeks ago, with the phone on speaker, with had a lot of laughs. We will truly miss him. Praying for Janet and family. Fly high Mike. Till we meet again.

I always looked forward to going to Mike for a haircut and a round of entertainment. He and Hal didn’t disappoint, even if Mike had to tell a joke at Hal’s expense. An era ended when they had to give up their careers, but Mike still cut a head or two at his home until his most recent surgery. I hope he left his family with as many memories as I have of him.

Mike cut my hair for 30+ years – I have some great memories of him making me laugh with all his jokes and stories. He also kept me updated on all the “going’s on” in the Denham community. He was great guy and will be missed. Rest in peace my friend.
