Wilma P. Lewis
Wilma P. Lewis, 89, of Plano, Texas, formerly of Denham Springs, Louisiana, passed away at home on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born in Bulter, Tennessee, on May 12, 1935, to the late Benjamin and Vernie Potter. She was married for 40 years to the late James R. Lewis, of Terre Haute, Indiana.
Wilma graduated from Dana High School in Dana (IN) in 1953. She retired from Denham Springs High School (LA) to take on her favorite job as Grandma. Next to spending time with her family and friends, she enjoyed quilting and crocheting and she was an ace cornhole player.
Wilma is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Mike and Cathy Lewis of Plano; grandson Tanner Lewis (Isaac Shuey) of Cedar Park, Texas; granddaughter Landry Lewis of Plano; sisters Beni Ensley of Sedona, AZ and Marti Kritzer (Howard) of Dana, IN; stepdaughter Marilyn Agee of Panama City, FL and her family; along with many other loved nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins and friends who were like family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her twin brother, William “Chick”, sisters Dorothy, Dovie and Susie and brothers Elmer, George, Herb and Jimmy.
Wilma will be laid to rest next to her husband at Green Oaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge, LA. A private family graveside service conducted by Pastor Gary Peterson will be held on Monday, Sept. 16. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that you make a donation in Wilma’s memory to the charity of your choice or to the American Heart Association.
