Brian Munn Baker

February 24, 1970 – October 5, 2024

“Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord” – Matthew 25:23

Brian passed away on October 5, 2024, at the age of 54, surrounded by his loving family.  He was a Professional Engineer and worked for the State of Louisiana for nearly 30 years, retiring most recently with the Louisiana Department of Health.  As a lifelong resident of Watson, he graduated from Live Oak High School before attending Louisiana State University (LSU) and obtaining his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.  Brian was a faithful servant of God, a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His love and generosity touched everyone who knew him.  His infectious smile brightened every room he entered. Those who met him fondly remember his kindness, selflessness, and how he made you feel like the most important person. He was always there to solve a problem or lend an ear. Brian loved spending time with his children, loved to fish with his family, and was always completing a project of some magnitude. He enjoyed working outdoors with his father, usually building something, helping others, or trying to keep things up and running as only they could.  Brian’s deep bond with his wife, children, parents, and family was a true testament to the values instilled in him by his parents, who always emphasized the importance of prioritizing God and family.

Brian was a proud husband and father who spent much of his time with his wife and children, loving them wholeheartedly and helping them achieve their pursuits. He helped coach their sports teams, caught many bullpens, rode bikes for many miles, and supported their dreams in any way he could. Brian was so very proud of his children. Of all Brian’s accomplishments, being a husband and dad was most important to him.

He and Cherie celebrated nearly 28 years of marriage. They first crossed paths during their younger years when their parents, who both worked at LSU, introduced them. Their parents, who were colleagues, later played matchmakers when Brian and Cherie were in college. It’s true what they say – parents do know best. Brian loved his wife with all his heart and second to God; he kept her in the center of his concerns with everything he did. They enjoyed each other with every moment they shared, and together, they could tackle anything as one. He left a family that is a faithful, loving legacy that will continue.

Brian saw his journey as part of God’s plan and a chance to glorify Him. He battled for time to spend with his loved ones, maintaining his faithful walk throughout his life. His unwavering faith and resilience in the face of adversity, his determination to spend more time with his family, are a testament to his character and a source of inspiration for all who knew him. We all love him so much and cherish that he is with his earthly and Heavenly Father, no doubt.

Brian is survived by his wife, Cherie Nanette Creel Baker; children Brendon Baker (Carley), Katelyn Baker Hiestand (Evan), and Joshua Baker; mother, Eualene Munn Baker; sister Susie (Mark); brother Jeff Baker (Donna); father and mother-in-law Larry and Patricia Creel; brothers-in-law Wayne Creel (Amy) and James Creel; and numerous nieces and nephews. His father, Fred Eugene Baker, and his grandparents preceded him in death. Brian was a member of Amite Baptist Church, where he served as a previous deacon.

The pallbearers will be all his loving nephews: Allen Thomasson, Loren Frye, Ben Baker, Sean Creel, Grant Creel, Zach Creel, Jackson Creel, Trevor St. Cyr, and Tanner St. Cyr.

Visitation will be held at Amite Baptist Church in Denham Springs on Monday, October 14, 2024, starting at 1 PM. The religious service will start at 4 PM and will be led by Pastor Ernest Graham. Following the service, the burial will take place at the Amite Baptist Church cemetery.

Brian’s absence will be deeply felt by all who loved and knew him.
