Nellie Brister Childers, 82, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Nellie was born on April 26 1942 to Lawson and Serena Brister of Quitman, La. Nellie was loved dearly by all who knew her. Her smile and laughter was truly a God filled spirit, that you knew without a doubt where her heart stood. She made sure to instill in all her family, and anyone she met, that each needed to know who God is and to have a relationship with Him. She not only talked the talk but walked the walk as well to lead by a Godly example.
She is survived by her sister Cassie Lovett (Elmo Jr.); daughter Nella Ball (Jessie), four sons Danny Childers (Johnette), Curtis Childers (LaDonna), Jimmy Childers (Tammy), and John Childers. She loved all dearly including eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years David Childers, parents Lawson and Serena Brister, brother LD Brister and sister-n-law Maurice Brister, sister Audna Turner and brother-n-law Dewey Turner, brother Ross Brister and sister-n-law Francis Brister, and nephew Ken Brister.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 beginning at 11:00am at Colyell Baptist Church. Rev. Kenneth Stewart will conduct funeral services at 2:00pm. Burial will follow in Colyell Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: David Childers, Tyler Childers, Matthew Childers, Cooper Childers, Carson Childers, and Adam Willoughby.

To Mrs Nellie family, my prayers are with y’all. May God hold all y’all close to Him. I will never forget this lady feeding me at Gulf South Health Plan. Nella and I have know each other for years. I praise God to have had the privilege to be in this family. My love is with all
