Wendy Tyler Drummond Riddle

Wendy Tyler Drummond Riddle did everything in her own unique way until her last day on November 12, 2024. Born in New York City, March 1, 1943, she lived in Connecticut and Northern California before moving to and staying 55 years in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for her children to be near their father. She had the heart of a fierce Tiger, the mind of a sly Fox, and the humor of a clever Monkey. She was an animal lover since childhood and had a special fondness for cats. She couldn’t resist a stray, animal or human, and devoted her life to caring for others, even before herself. Until the end she was most concerned with how her loved ones would fare after her absence.

Wendy had exquisite taste, deep wisdom, exceptional intellect, and endless energy. It took multiple organ crises and a major stroke on October 20, 2024 to finally claim her life 23 days later. She fought to the very end, impressing and surprising everyone with her determination to live. She finally let go and passed peacefully with her daughter by her side.

Wendy was creative, inspiring, funny, and strong. She was an avid reader, gifted gardener, and excellent cook. She always had a witty quip ready and she had an incredible memory.

As a young mother, Wendy cared for children in her home so that she could be home with her daughter and son. She taught many kids to read and loved using Montessori methods. She loved taking her kids to Navarre Beach, Florida, and on nature walks, birdwatching, and exploring. She had both her children participate in almost every sport and was a Swim Mom for many years, driving carpool and timing at meets. She was mostly a runner herself, and used to run ten miles some nights. She’d walk up to eight miles a day while recovering from Breast Cancer in her sixties. After beating Breast Cancer, she volunteered for the American Cancer Society and drove patients to Chemo and Dialysis.

Wendy’s absence leaves a huge hole in the hearts of many. She will be dearly missed by her children Kimberly Riddle Lanka and Shawn Riddle; doting son-in-law, Brian Lanka; and the grandson she absolutely adored, Gavin Tyler Lanka. She leaves behind her brothers William Drummond and Wayne Drummond; her devoted niece, Diana Drummond; her dear sisters-in-law LouAnne Larson and Mari Drummond; as well as several other cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Ruth Tyler Drummond and William Thomas Drummond.

Special thanks to Audubon Home Health and Hospice, her OLOL physicians Dr. Ryan Majoria, Dr. Bao Tran, and Dr. Mary Raven for helping save her life and fighting so hard for her. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to The American Cancer Society.
