Anna Lucille Cochran Hughes died on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at her home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She had a blessed and interesting life over 98 years. Her five daughters and their families visited, sang, and prayed. She met her first great great granddaughter.
Lucille was born in Topeka, Kansas on May 3, 1926 to mother Nelle Woodford Cochran and dad, Lloyd J. Cochran.
Lucille married, Otto Loyd Hughes, Jr. He called her “Miss Shorty.”
Lucille is survived by five daughters: Linda Hughes of Elmer, LA, Barbara Andrepont (husband Paul), of Baton Rouge, LA, Janet Tanner (husband Charles R), of Knoxville, TN, Dianne “Dee Dee” Brown, of Mesa, AZ, and Rebecca “Becky” Longo (husband John), of Fleetwood, TN; along with grandchildren, Thomas Austin and Matthew Austin (Linda’s children); Annette Dilick, and Desiree, Elise and Christa Andrepont (Barbara’s children); Robert Tanner and Laura Moody (Janet’s children); Bridget Selders and Brooks Brown (Dianne’s children); and Nicholas (Nick) Longo (Rebecca’s child).
Lucille worked at the Lafayette Water Department, and then in retail in Raceland, Houma, and Matthews.
Lucille had the greatest smile. She was eager to work in her gardens, and to “show her roses who’s the boss.” She loved sewing, quilting, and getting things “straight and even”. Puzzles were special treat for her. Lucille rejoiced in traveling with Otto all over the United States, and in Europe. She was an avid lap swimmer later in life and loved the YMCAs in Houma and in Baton Rouge.
The family sends love to Sadie, Michelle, NeeCee, Britany, SunnyBrooke, and Hilary for their tireless help in caring for their mom. Also special thanks to Audubon Hospice for their services.
No services are planned.

I would like to extend special thanks to Barbara and Paul Andrepont and their four daughters and their families, Annette, Desiree, Elise, and Christa, who helped a lot with their many visits and support for both our Mom and their Mother. They, along with hospice and sitters, made it possible for Mom to stay in her home as she wanted, until the end. Thank you each so much!
I am grateful to have been at my Mom’s bedside a long with my four sisters, and all family that came to accompany Mom through this time. It was nice to see everyone. Peace to Mom and all. Love, Dee Dee
