George Rudolph “Rudy” Forbes passed away at his home on Monday, December 9, 2024. He was 89 years old. Rudy was a lifelong resident of Walker, Louisiana and worked as a Millwright for over 40 years. He was a great athlete in high school. He was inducted into the Walker High School Athletic Hall of Fame for excelling in both basketball and baseball. After high school, he turned down an opportunity to sign a professional baseball contract with the St. Louis Cardinals organization because he wanted to get married and start a family. He also was inducted into the Louisiana ASA Hall of Fame for his fast pitch softball accomplishments. Rudy spent many years coaching sports. Many of the players have fond memories of him driving them to practice in his “old blue truck.” He loved to be outdoors hunting, fishing, riding his tractor, and working in his garden. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joyce Matherne Forbes; children Donna (Mack) Byers, Willie (Julia) Forbes, Benjamin (Beth) Forbes, Glenn (Stacey) Forbes, and Alice (Daniel) LaFleur. He has 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Willie B. Forbes and Bertha Sibley Forbes; sister Esther Carroll; brothers Jessie “Jake” and Michael “Mike” Forbes; and daughter Susan Hughes. Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs on Friday, December 13, 2024 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Visitation will resume on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Sibley Cemetery in Walker, Louisiana. Pallbearers will be Willie Forbes, Benjamin Forbes, Glenn Forbes, Mack Byers, Andrew Forbes, Donnie Hughes, Ron Rarick, and Patrick Phillips. The family would like to acknowledge Jesse Barksdale, a longtime friend who will be sharing special memories at the funeral.

Rudy was one of the best inside basketball players in the history of Livingston Parish. He was also an All State high school baseball player. If Walker High School would have had football, he would have been great at any position. He also was a nice guy. I had the honor to be asked to speak at his induction into the Walker High School Hall of Fame.
