Melissa Yvonne Stephenson, lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. She was 74 years old. Melissa was a graduate of Glen Oaks High School. She worked as a clerk at Greco’s Pharmacy for almost 20 years. Melissa was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was young at heart: she enjoyed road trips, holidays, Walt Disney World, and any opportunity to dress in costume. She loved to fish and scour estate sales to add to her many collections. She was a thoughtful and generous gift-giver. She never missed an opportunity to support her daughters and granddaughter in their many endeavors, be it sporting events, performances, or art projects.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Melvin H. Stephenson, her mother Sara Margaret Bryant Mobley, her father Bobbie Joe Little, and her beloved stepfather Marvin L. “Buddy” Mobley.
She is survived by daughters Tracy Lane Stephenson Shaffer and Amanda Margaret Stephenson, son-in-law Douglas Shaffer, granddaughter Sara Melissa Shaffer, sister-in-law Pattie Stephenson Daigle, half-sisters Glenda Sue Jarrell and Gloria Jean Alesi, best friends Peggy Summers and Mary Alice Denny, many nieces and nephews, and countless cherished cousins.
The family would like to thank Patrice Young who helped her daughters provide her with care over the last three years.
Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home, in Denham Springs, on Sunday, December 29, 2024 from 5 pm until 8 pm. Visitation resumes on Monday, December 30, 2024 from noon until 2 pm until a Celebration of Life Service at 2 pm. Burial will follow in Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery.
