Melvin Douglas Corkern (Corky), 88, born on November 18, 1936, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with his family at his side on the morning of February 1, 2025.
Douglas was a graduate of Woodland School class of 1954. Douglas worked as a salesman for Coca-Cola and retired after 45 years of service. He traveled the world, and never met a stranger. He had a love for the outdoors, whether it was on his tractor or lawn mower, riding the side by side with his great grandson, Brayden Bordelon, and anything in general with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved his family and was very active in the community. He didn’t mind helping anyone. He was a longtime member of Live Oak Church and known for his firm hand shake.
Douglas is survived by his loving wife, Dolores Mae Hooper Corkern of 68 years; children, Rowland Corkern (Barbara), Vickie Jarreau (Lester), James Corkern (Rebecca) and daughter-in-law, Shelly Corkern; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Donnie Corkern (Pam); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Douglas is preceded in death by his oldest son, Ronald W. Corkern “Ronnie”; parents, Lou-Ella Stevens Corken and Herman Corkern; brothers, P.M. and L.D. Corkern; and sisters, Doris LaBauve and Mildred Rayburn.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Corkern, Kane McCalister, Brandon Jarreau, Stevie Corkern, Greg Corkern, Glynn Hooper, Loyd Hooper and Dusty Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Langston, Keith Chavers, and Seth Bordelon.

Friends and family are invited to attend services with viewing starting at Live Oak Church, Watson, Louisiana on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 9:00 AM until his Celebration of Life service at 12:00 PM, Noon, officiated by Brother Mark Crosby and Pastor Stephen Hebert. Interment will follow in the Live Oak Church Cemetery afterwards.
In Lieu of Flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Quilters of Live Oak Church – “The Piece Makers”.

Miss Delores, I’m am so sorry to read of your husband’s passing. I remember y’all well from early days at Live Oak. Your son James was our plumber on several occasions. Mr. Doug will be missed greatly by the family and the many friends at Live Oak. R.i.p.
