March 13, 1933 – March 13, 2025
Gloria Carol Underwood Justice passed away peacefully on her 92nd birthday, on March 13, 2025, at her home on the Bend Road (Watson, La.), barely “up the road” from 2 sycamore trees
which once framed the home where she was born.
She was a graduate of Live Oak High School, and earned her music degree from the LSU School of Music. She taught music in her home to numerous piano students, and freely shared her gift of music for over 74 years at her beloved Live Oak Methodist Church. She began playing for worship services at age 8, was the “interim” choir director for 23 years, and played for countless worship services including weddings and funerals.
While on a “Methodist Caravan” in Idaho, Carol met the love her life, James “Jim” Justice who, by God’s grace, just happened to be home on military leave. He eventually followed her back to Louisiana where they were married and lived for 57 happy years.
Carol’s entire life was guided by her love of faith and family. Like Jim, Carol never met a stranger, and the door to her home was always open to friends and family. She was an avid, lifelong LSU fan, but the center of her world were the joys and triumphs (no matter how great or small) of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and everyone she took under wing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Howard Underwood, and Hazel Carroll Underwood, and her husband, James W. Justice.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann Sutton (Scott) and Jill Marie Rushing (Joel) and one son, William Howard Justice (Amy); six grandchildren, Andrew David Sutton (Elizabeth), Daniel Paul Sutton (Jenny), Travis David Rushing (Lauren), Molly Anne Rushing (Daniel), Margaret Rose Carmichael (Andrew) and Samuel Lemoine Justice; seven great grandchildren Willow Ann Sutton, Gregory Scott Sutton, Shepherd James Sutton, Campbell Grace Rushing, Carson James Rushing, Alice Rose Carmichael and Charles William Carmichael.
The family would like to thank the cousins, neighbors and friends who have supported mom with such enduring care, the wonderful caregivers including Rebecca (“Puddin”) Daniels, Sharon Gunter, and Kim West, and the compassionate personnel of At Home Care of Louisiana and Bridgeway Hospice.
Pallbearers – Andrew Sutton, Daniel Sutton, Travis Rushing, Daniel Huang, Sam Justice and Andrew Carmichael. Honorary Pallbearers – Bob Walner, Bob Morrison, Jay Nesom, David Gunter, David Blackshear, Dan Truax, Tim Truax, Craig Harris and Carl Plitt.
Visitation will be held at Live Oak Church in Watson, on Saturday, March 22 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Reverend Mark Crosby and Reverend Stephen Hebert, followed by burial, and then reception at the Family Life Center. Donations can be made to Live Oak Church or the Justice Scholarship Fund.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I remember Carol back to early days at the old Live Oak Church. She played the organ oh so well. May the Lord be with the family, friends and neighbors. She was loved by so many including myself.
Rest in Peace!

One of the most remarkable women I’ve have ever had the privilege to meet and know. Mrs. Carol always made me feel so welcomed and accepted. We moved to Watson in 2002 and found Live Oak Church, one of the best memories I’ll ever have. She was kind, and genuine and I will always consider her to have the lived the life we all should aspire to live. God Bless her memory and my prayers for all her family and the many people who will miss her presence.

May our Lord bring peace, comfort, and strength to this family and friends as they adjust to this time where Mrs. Carol has gone ahead to be with our Lord. Mrs. Carol and Mr. Jim were wonderful friends and role models for us. They were both always so interested in encouraging others.
