Mary Courville Singleton, 78, often spoke of how she longed for the day when she would see Jesus face-to-face and be reunited with loved ones in heaven. That day came on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. She was diagnosed with stage IIIC ovarian cancer 10 months prior and chose to fight hard and make the most of her time with her family and loved ones. Ms. Mary was an extraordinary caretaker by nature, with a God-given ability to recognize others needs and put action to her empathy. She was an incredibly gifted seamstress as well, sewing everything from custom drapes to wedding dresses to Miss America pageant attire. Ms. Mary also had a knack for baking, and her red velvet cake was legendary, the best you will ever taste! Her influence and integrity reaches far beyond Baton Rouge. It runs deep in the Cajun culture, a place where she was not known as “Ms. Mary” but where she was affectionately known as “Sis” or “Sista.” She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Ms. Mary is survived by her daughter, Melody Thibodeaux Brumley; brothers, Clayton Courville, Milton Courville, Billy Courville; sisters, Beverly Chautin (Ronald), Amanda Bergeron (Glenn); grandchildren, Jasper “Beau” Brumley (Emily), Cherith Brumley, Joseph Vance (Cami), Brock Brumley, Nicholas Ferrington; great-grandchildren, Beau Alan Dunn, Thomas Olin Dunn, and Hallie Kate Brumley.
