Nancy Alice Lipp Wolford, age 92, of Denham Springs, passed away Sunday, May 18, at Maison De Fleur Assisted Living Home. She was born in Portland, Oregon and was a graduate of Kelso High School in Longview, Washington. She was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church and faithfully served for over fifty years as president of ECW, chair of the UTO campaign, and on the vesting and music and hospitality ministries. Nancy started Hannah’s Hands, a non-denominational knitting/crocheting group that supplied caps, gloves, and other clothing items for Diocesan Seaman’s Institute. She was also active in knitting groups with the Broadmoor Methodist Church in Baton Rouge and First United Methodist Church of Denham Springs donating their knitting projects to the needs in their community. She was an Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana Honored Woman in 2015. She retired in 1991 from Dow Chemical after 24 years of distinguished service managing the affairs of the Sales Office. She then worked at the Baton Rouge Advocate for ten years and was known throughout the Funeral Industry for her work as a writer and her dedication to the Obituary Department. Nancy was an active member in the American Business Women’s Association for most of her career, and she also provided enthusiastic assistance with the projects and activities of the Lions Club.

Preceded in death by husband of 27 years, L. William (Bill) Wolford, Jr.; parents, John and Alice Lipp; parents-in-law, Lester and Giulia Wolford; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Carl Hatmaker; nephew-in-law, Rev. Charles Castles.

Survived by three nieces, Debbie Castles, Betty and husband Chris Henry; and Linda Hawley; nephew, John and wife Joan Hatmaker; four great nieces, five great nephews, four great-great nieces, and six great-great nephews. She will be missed by all whom she came in contact with.

Visitation will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 726 Maple Street, Denham Springs, on Saturday, May 24, from 9 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Maggie Sullivan, officiating.

Serving as Pallbearers are Ed Ballew, Jim Bruce, Jerry Gill, Chris Henry, and Gene Knecht. Honorary Pallbearers are Roger de Gruy and Mike Stafford.

Entombment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Mausoleum.

The family is grateful to Cardinal Hospice of Baton Rouge and Kim and Melissa of Maison De Fleur Assisted Living Home for the excellent care given to our aunt. The family would also like to thank Judy Knecht, Janie Rainey, and Dolly Williams for their love, friendship, support, and thoughtfulness which they so selflessly and faithfully extended to our aunt.

    I was very Blessed to have known her. Was welcoming to me at Hannah’s Hands when I first game to Baton Rouge. We shared a big love for the Mitford series! She touched so many lives and will be missed.
