Samuel “Dale” McCarter passed at the age of 69 on May 26, 2025 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was born on June 30, 1955 to his parents James and Vannie McCarter in Independence, Louisiana. He was a high school graduate and was a proud member of the United States Army. Dale worked as a cafeteria worker and janitor at Ponchatoula High, a small engine repair mechanic, street cleaner, and at Martha’s Vinyard. He was a member of Amvets Post 68 and enjoyed spending his free time outdoors fishing, hunting, gardening, feeding wildlife, and [picking up cans. Dale will be deeply missed by those that had the privilege to know and love him.

He is survived by his sisters Vickie Mitrakas and Jeanetta “Ann” Pigott, step-brothers Gary Gehegan and “Junior” Gehegan, nieces Roxanne Diamond, Maria Agbil, Rochelle Miles, Cordelia “Dee” Casey, Mildred “Sissy” Bickford, great-niece Makayla McCarter, and niece-in-law Lena McCarter, and nephews Dennis Miller, Robert Miller, Christian McCarter, and Zachary McCarter.

He is preceded in death by his parents James McCarter and Vannie E. McCarter, sister Lucille McCarter, “Ann” McCarter, brothers James “Wayne” McCarter, Richard Lee McCarter, and Richard Wayne McCarter.

Honorary pallbearers are Lena McCarter, Christian McCarter, Zachary McCarter, and Mikayla McCarter.

A special thanks to Foundations Hospice for their love and care during this time.

A graveside service will be held at Sand Hill Cemetery in Ponchatoula on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 3pm.
